Born in Southern CA to two wonderful parents. I was born with No hearing in my left ear. Lived in Hawaii for the first year of my life & before my baby sister was born we moved back to CA.
6 Years later after adding my sister & brother & a couple more dogs (& fish) to the family, we were trying to find out why I was losing my hearing in my right ear. I was undergoing tons of tests, which included spinal taps & MRIs. I began to take sign language courses to learn ASL and was attending a deaf school close to my home. Awhile later my father was in a near fatal car wreak so shortly after that we packed up & moved to west TN to be closer to my mother’s family.
Fast forward to 9 years later when I’m 15 years old & undergoing surgery for a cochlear implant thanks to my sign language interpreter at school for saying something to my parents about the new device.
After going a whole month with no hearing at all & being homeschooled for a month. I began the long process of learning how to hear again.
The number one question I get asked the most is does your implant make things sound robotic? The answer is NO.. it doesn’t. But trust me.. there is no other amazing thing then to have your implant turned on & being able to sit on your front porch & hear the birds sing & the dogs barking off in the distance in your neighborhood. There is no sweeter words to be able to hear then your family telling you “I love you” & actually being able to understand them when they say the words.
Graduated Class of 2003 & attended APSU the following Fall… after one year of school I decided to stop school & work for awhile to save more money. I then got a Job at Tennessee School for the Deaf & moved out on my own & moved to Knoxville TN.
After working at TSD for a school year I found a new job with a Large retail company. Just a few weeks after that I met & Fell head over heels in love with James.
A year later I moved in with James & after 3 years of dating we decide to get married.. One month after our engagement we marry on Valentines day & start our new adventure together.
6 months later (4 days shy of our 6 month wedding anniversary) James passes away of a massive heart attack at home while I’m at work.
Its been a year & a half since He has been called home to be with the LORD. GOD has been my strength, My portion & my comforter during this difficult time. GOD has also put some pretty amazing people in my life & 2 wonderful churches in my life! Carpenters House Church & CrossPoint Community Church! All I can say is you rock!!
So feel free to join me where I am at in this journey we call Life.. I don’t know what GOD has planned next for me, but all I can say its gonna be GOOD!!
